While remaining in his primary role as the Head of Autonomous Vehicle Safety for Lyft, Inc., John Maddox serves as an Industry Vertical Advisor for the Automotive, Transportation and related industries. In his capacity as an Industry Vertical Advisor, he focuses on talent and executive leadership for Automotive, Autonomous Vehicles, Mobility-as-a-Service, Micromobility, and Transportation businesses.
John is very active in the automotive safety world, where he is a well-known leader with more than 30 years experience in industry, government and academia. In addition to his current position at Lyft, he has worked as the Associate Administrator for Vehicle Safety Research at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and was the Founder and CEO of the American Center for Mobility. John also served as Director of Collaborative Programs at University of Michigan and Texas A&M University, as well numerous engineering and executive roles at Ford Motor Company and Volkswagen Group North America. He holds a Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering from University of Maryland and a Masters of Engineering Management from University of Detroit Mercy. John holds a number of patents in the automated and connected vehicle space.
John has served on a number of advisory and executive boards and is very active with the Automated Vehicle Safety Consortium and other national and international bodies. Outside of the office, he enjoys mountain biking, snowboarding, paddling, and other outdoor activities and has a collection of classic cars.
